Bee School – 2020

Date: Saturday, March 7, 2020 (1 day class) 8:30am – 2:00pm

For beginning beekeepers, bee biology, hive equipment, how to get bees, managing the hive, and more. Must be a member of LBBA, otherwise the course costs $25 (the cost of an annual LBBA membership). A book on beginning beekeeping is included in the course.

Andony Melathopoulos, from OSU’s Department of Horticulture, will speak on “The (considerable) obstacles to building pollinator habitat in Western Oregon (and where we might get started). “

Why isn’t there more pollinator habitat in Linn and Benton County? Why aren’t the right of ways full of flowers, why aren’t acres of new hazelnut and hemp fashioned with pollinator hedgerows around the headlands, why are managed forests not plugging more bee plants into their plots? This talk explains what the obstacles are and offers some modest suggestions on how we might get around this.
